Georgiana Hardy, who served on the Los Angeles school board longer than any other member in the system’s history, is dead at 78.
She was first elected to the board in 1955, at a time when it was controlled by a con6servative majority. The influence of Ms. Hardy, a lifelong liberal, gradually led to more “progressive thinking” among board members, according to a spokesman for the district.
Ms. Hardy served five consecutive terms and was president of the board three times before deciding not to seek reelection in 1975.
