Suit Over Aid to Church Schools Abroad Contested

The American Civil Liberties Union and the federal government are sparring over whether the organization has legal standing to ask the courts to end all federal aid to religious schools abroad.

The civil-liberties group last month filed suit to block such aid, in the wake of controversy over an $8-million Congressional appropriation for Ozar Hatorah, an American organization that proposed to build schools in France for Jewish refugees from North Africa.
