Ellis E. Meredith, a past president of the American Apparel Manufacturers Association, last week was named executive director of the American Vocational Association.

Mr. Meredith has also served as chairman of the American Society of Association Executives and has extensive experience in association management, the ava said.

Mr. Meredith replaces Gene Bottoms, who resigned from the organization last June to become a consultant to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in Atlanta, Ga.

Dean Griffin, the ava's assistant executive director for government relations, served as acting executive director of the organization following Mr. Bottoms's departure.
