Eileen White, Washington reporter for Education Week, was among 20 journalists across the country selected as finalists in the national-news category of The Livingston Awards for Young Journalists, a nationwide competition for print and broadcast reporters under 35 covering international, national, and local beats.

Judges in the competition, which was established by the Mollie Parnis Livingston Foundation to “recognize and encourage young journalists at the point when such recognition can help their careers,” included the well-known journalists David Brinkley and Barbara Walters of ABC, Charlotte Curtis of The New York Times, Mike Wallace of CBS, and David Halberstam, author of The Best and the Brightest.

Winner of the $5,000 first prize in the national-news category was H.G. Bissinger, formerly a reporter for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, now with The Philadelphia Inquirer.
