Join Ryan Lee-James, Ph.D. CCC-SLP, director of the Rollins Center for Language and Literacy, with Renée Boynton-Jarrett, MD, ScD., Vital Village Community Engagement Network; Neena McConnico, Ph.D, LMHC, Child Witness to Violence Project; and Sondra Mims, CCC-SLP, Atlanta Speech School in conversation about Trauma-Informed Practices & the Construction of the Deep Reading Brain.

Trauma-Informed Practices help create a caring and nurturing environment that promotes learning. As children reenter schools this fall, these practices are even more critical. The Rollins Center for Language & Literacy recognizes that feelings of safety are a prerequisite for learning, and that the construction of the deep reading brain — through the science of healthy brain development, language and literacy — help ensure that children are on a path to a life of self-determination.
