I’m covering the National Center for Education Statistics’ annual National Forum on Education Statistics and NCES Data Conference this week, and I’ll have some details coming in the blog later today.

For the latest updates, you can follow me on Twitter at @SarahDSparks.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s going on at the conference, and some highlights from yesterday:

@SarahDSparks: NCES’s Buckley on P-20 data: “The policy world doesn’t care that we have systems that stop in one place ... We need to bridge those transitions.”

@SarahDSparks: NCES speakers urge deeper study of linking teacher-student data. ‘Mistakes can cost a teacher a job.’

@SarahDSparks: Nation’s Report Card 2011 to break out Asian, Pacific Island student progress, clarify groups.

@SarahDSparks: Sen. Alexander thinks feds should encourage states to measure teacher effectiveness through Teacher Incentive Fund, not by making them in ESEA.

@SarahDSparks: ED Privacy Chief Styles: Proposed #FERPA rules got twice the response as 2008 changes. Final rule due this year.

@SarahDSparks: Styles: In 2010, Ed agencies improperly released more than 1.5 million student records. And that’s down from prior years!

@SarahDSparks: Styles: “People will give up almost any information about themselves online if there some benefit to themselves.”
