I have a story just posted on Education Week‘s home page under the headline, “Ed. Law Challenges Loom After Health-Care Ruling.”

I believe the link (embedded in that headline) will provide free access to the story even to non-subscribers of Education Week, at least for a few days. The story will appear in the July 18 print edition of Education Week.

The story examines the ways in which the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius to limit the way in which the federal government may enforce the Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act. The court effectively ruled 7-2 that the states could not be threatened with the loss of their existing Medicaid funding if they refused to participate in the law’s expansion of the federal health-care program for the poor.

Also embedded in that story is my annual chart detailing the Supreme Court term’s decisions dealing with education and related issues.
