Dear Mrs. Smith:

I have been searching for jobs through the Chicago Public Schools website, and I discovered the position for a second grade music teacher at Edgebrook Elementary School. It caught my attention right away because of the emphasis that you place on fine arts and the diversity of the students. I have been playing the flute for 15 years, and I know that the arts play an enormous role in education. Since students have varied ways of learning, teachers need to address the diverse learning styles of their students. One way to instruct the students is through music.

Currently, I am a student teacher in Riverwoods. I will graduate this December. I have been working with an excellent group of first graders, and I am looking forward to my career as an educator. My forte is in the primary grades. I plan to integrate music into the curriculum and address my students’ individual needs. I believe that positive reinforcement is essential to a good learning environment. I try to find creative and innovative ideas. I am well organized in my lesson planning and consistent in my discipline techniques. I am open-minded and flexible.

My enclosed resume outlines my experiences in greater detail. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing the exciting opportunities available to members of your staff. If you have any questions, please contact me at csmith556@aol.com or via telephone at 773-555-5555. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Chris Smith
