Another useful reference work focusing on minorities is the Directory of Special Programs for Minority Group Members, a comprehensive resource for high-school students looking toward college and beyond.
The directory lists over 4,000 programs, including opportunities for financial aid for secondary and postsecondary study, women’s programs, and publications focusing on minority interests. Other listings highlight job-placement organizations, employment-training programs, internships, and summer employment.

English-as-a-Second-Language students and those learning Spanish will be able to take advantage of a unique line of Spanish-language children’s books to be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
Mirasol: Libros Juveniles, a continuing line of hardcover children’s books, will debut in the fall; four or five books for various age groups will be marketed each spring and fall.
Three of the imprint’s first five releases, slated for the fall, are Caldecott- and Newbery-award-winning works: El gato con botas (Puss in Boots), Irene, la valiente (Brave Irene) and Tontimundo y el barco volador (The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship). All of the books have previously been published in English by Farrar.
The Mirasol books will be available at bookstores nationwide.
