T.J. Elliott was recently appointed the chief learning officer of the Educational Testing Service. Mr. Elliott, 50, previously served as the director of research and consulting design for Cavanaugh Leahy and Co., an organizational-consulting firm based in White Plains, N.Y. The Educational Testing Service, a private, nonprofit testing organization based in Princeton, N.J., administers more than 11 million tests annually in 181 countries, including the sat college-entrance exam.

The National School Boards Association has appointed Marilee C. Rist as the new publisher of its magazine, American School Board Journal. Ms. Rist, 56, will continue to serve as the assistant executive director of marketing and national affiliate programs for the NSBA. She succeeds former Publisher Don E. Blom, currently the NSBA’s associate executive director. The NSBA, based in Alexandria, Va., is a national federation of local school boards. The magazine, founded in 1891, is one of the oldest magazines in continuous publication in the United States.

Susan K. Nicklas will become the executive director of the Commission on Secondary Schools in July. Ms. Nicklas, 51, previously served as the commission’s deputy executive director. She succeeds Joseph DeLucia, who will be retiring at the end of June.

The Philadelphia-based Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, a regional accrediting association for colleges and K-12 schools, established the Commission on Secondary Schools in 1920 to promote improvement in elementary and secondary education. Before joining the commission, Ms. Nicklas worked as the assistant executive director for constituent relations with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development in Alexandria, Va.
