E.D. Plans Another ‘What Works’ Book

April 01, 1987 1 min read

The U.S. Education Department is planning yet another volume in its “What Works’’ series--this one to tackle the subject of adult literacy.

“The book will contain practical advice and help for anyone interested in setting up or improving an adult-literacy program,’' Secretary of Education William J. Bennett said.

The pamphlet, to be produced by the Education Department’s division of adult education and to be published later this year, will summarize research findings and practitioners’ experiences with successful teaching methods. It will also include a list of literacy-program contacts.

“What Works in Adult Literacy’’ will be the fourth booklet in the department’s series. The original, “What Works: Research about Teaching and Learning,’' a popular synthesis of advice on basic educational questions, appeared last spring. --JC
