Asbestos Inspections
Hearing
The House Subcommittee on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources lust week held a hearing on the Environmental Protection Agency’s management of the asbestos-in-schools program.

Education Research
Hearing
The House Subcommittee on Select Education last week held a hearing on the reauthorization of the Education Department’s office of educational research and improvement.

Job Training
HR 3033
The House Education and Labor Committee last week approved amendments to the Job Training Partnership Act that would more narrowly target the program toward poor participants and expand its youth-training efforts.

School Reform
HR 3320
The House Subcommittee on Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Education last week approved HR 3320, which would establish grants to states for system-wide education reform.

Education Department

Direct Grants and Fellowships
The Education Department in the Sept. 18 Federal Register invited applications for new awards for FY 1992 under many of its direct-grant and fellowship programs. Deadlines dates for applications were included in the notice.
