Hearing
The Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee last week was scheduled to hold an oversight hearing on the Education Department’s office for civil rights.

FY 1992 Budget Resolution

Members of a House-Senate conference committee began deliberations last week on a resolution that will set overall spending targets for the fiscal year 1992 federal budget.

Higher Education Act

Reauthorization Hearing
The House Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education held a hearing last week on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

Lead in Drinking Water

Hearing
The House Subcommittee on Health and the Environment held a hearing May 10 on the Environmental Protection Agency’s new rule governing lead in drinking water.

Student Loan Defaults

Proposed Regulations
The Education Department, in the May 13 Federal Register, published proposed regulations that would allow higher-education institutions with excessive default rates to continue participating in the Stafford Student Loan program if they met certain conditions. Comments are due June 12.
