Some of you probably have heard about the Southeast Regional Rural Education Summit that’s being held in Nashville tomorrow and Wednesday. The conference will be hosted by the State Collaborative on Reforming Education, a nonprofit that works with government agencies on education policies. Co-hosts include the Ayers Foundation, Niswonger Foundation, the Rural School and Community Trust, and the Tennessee School Boards Association.

The conference will help organizers create an outline of needed steps to improve rural education throughout the Southeast. Organizers have said they will release their Roadmap to Improving Rural Education after the gathering.

I’ve never attended a conference that focuses solely on rural education issues, and I’m looking forward to doing so. I plan on blogging about the issues discussed during a strong lineup of breakout sessions. Among the topics are improving rural education through community development, college-readiness, and completion in rural education.

Some notable speakers include: former U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist; U.S. Department of Education Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach John White; and Rural School and Community Trust Executive Director Doris Williams.

Hope to see some of you there, and check back for updates!
