In response to concerns that American children are not learning what they need to know to succeed in a high-tech society, the NSF and the National Research Council have mobilized their resources to support efforts to improve mathematics and science education in the nation's elementary and secondary schools. The Mathematical Sciences Education Board pioneers new approaches to teaching and learning mathematical skills and assessing mathematics performance.
