Labeling Theory

Labeling Theory is a broad theory of social behavior that describes how attaching labels to a person (such as deviant, disabled, high-risk, etc.) can shape both a person's self-perception as well as the expectations or behavior of others toward the labeled person in ways that reinforce the label.
