The Calendar of Events is a special semiannual supplement published by Education Week that lists professional-development events and conferences for K-12 educators. Below you will find more information about the biannual Calendar as well as how to submit grants, awards, and deadlines to Education Week and Teacher Magazine.

Education Week, Teacher Magazine, and edweek.org use common submission forms. You only need to submit your information once to reach all of our publications. However, because each publication has slightly different requirements and print deadlines, not all submissions will be published in all three areas. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with all of the guidelines prior to submitting your item.

Please note: Submission does not guarantee publication to our print or online sections. We reserve the right to select and edit submissions for publication.

The online submission forms for Grants, Awards, and Deadlines will be available soon. If you would like to submit to one or all of these sections, please provide the information listed here and mail or fax your submission to the Events Department. Do not send general press releases. Submissions with incomplete information will not be listed.

    What is the Calendar?

The Calendar of Events is a special semiannual supplement published by Education Week that lists professional-development events and conferences for K-12 educators.

The Fall Calendar lists events from September of the current year through December of the following year. The Spring Calendar update lists events from March through December, overlapping the Fall Calendar dates.

What's the difference between the Calendar and the Events sections?

The Calendars are published as special supplements in Education Week twice a year, and they list events several months in advance. The full Calendar supplements are not published in Teacher Magazine.

The Events sections appear weekly in Education Week and six times a year in Teacher Magazine. These sections list items several weeks prior to the event dates.

Who is eligible for a listing in the Calendar of Events?

    For Print Calendar:

Education Week accepts national and some regional* events for K-12 educators that are sponsored by nonprofit organizations. We also list international events if they are open to American educators.

*Regional events are considered only if they serve large areas of the United States or Canada. For example, the Midwest, Pacific/West Coast, Northeast, Southwest, Mid-Atlantic, or Southern U.S.

    For Online Calendar:

Education Week accepts international, national, regional, statewide, and local events for K-12 educators that are sponsored by nonprofit organizations. We will also consider listings for some for-profit events if space is available.

**All submissions are subject to review. Submission does not guarantee publication in print or online. We reserve the right to select and edit the listings submitted for publication.**

    Who is NOT eligible?

Education Week does not accept events for the print edition of the Calendar that are sponsored by for-profit organizations. Some for-profit events will be considered for the online version of the Calendar.

If you wish to publicize an event sponsored by a for-profit organization in the print edition of the Calendar of Events, please contact our advertising department at (301) 280-3100 or ads@epe.org.

Education Week does not accept local or statewide events for the print edition of the Calendar. Statewide and local events are considered for the online version only.

Education Week does not accept information about award banquets, dinners, student events, or events intended primarily for the general public to its print or online Calendars.

Is there a charge for listing an event?

No. Both print and online listings are free for nonprofit organizations; however, only online listings are free for for-profit organizations.

For-profit organizations interested in submitting events for the printed Calendar supplements or other print issues of Education Week should contact the advertising department at (800) 346-1834 or ads@epe.org

May I submit more than one event?

Yes. There is no limit on the number of events an organization may submit; however, all items are subject to review. We reserve the right to select and edit all listings submitted for publication.

When can I submit events and for which Calendar?

As a general rule, the deadline for the Fall Calendar is in June and the deadline for the Spring Update is in November.

These dates, however, are subject to change from year to year. Education Week sets a specific deadline date for each new spring and fall calendar when the calendar's production cycle begins. Formal calls for listings are announced in the paper several weeks in advance of the deadline, and Calendar mailings are issued to all listers in our database.

Which Calendar of Events is currently under production?

The 2005 Spring Calendar of Events is currently under production. Events scheduled between March 1, 2005, and December 31, 2005, qualify for inclusion.

What is the current deadline for submissions to the 2005 Spring Calendar?

The submission deadline for the 2005 Spring Calendar of Events is December 6, 2004.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

Submissions received after the deadline date will not be printed in the Calendar of Events.

However, late submissions will be eligible for inclusion in one of our weekly events sections. Education Week's weekly section lists events about a month prior to the event date. We stop listing events two weeks prior to the event date. If you supply a registration date or deadline, the listing will be removed two weeks prior to the deadline date rather than the event date.

How do I list an event in the Calendar?

To list an event in one of our Calendars, you must submit the information (as noted below) before each Calendar deadline. You can also submit online.

Please provide the following information with your listing:

  • full name(s) of sponsoring organization(s)*

    Bethesda, MD 20814

You may also fax events at (301) 280-3200. Please make certain the information is clearly legible. Do not fax a submission printed on colored or dark paper as it often comes out of the machine blurred or illegible. You can also submit events online!

**All submissions are subject to review. Submission does not guarantee publication in print or online. We reserve the right to select and edit the listings submitted for publication.**

When will my item be listed?

The Spring Calendar is usually published in February, and the Fall Calendar is published in September. Education Week sets a specific print date for each new spring and fall calendar every year.

Events submitted for the 2005 Spring Calendar will be published on February 9, 2005.

**All submissions are subject to review. Submission does not guarantee publication to our print or online editions. We reserve the right to select and edit the listings submitted for publication.**

Will my item also be listed online?

Yes. If your event has been reviewed and accepted it will be placed online. Please allow 7-10 days for review and posting. You can search for events online here.

How can I receive notification of Calendar deadlines and call for listings?

The Calendar Department has a database of calendar listers. Once you have listed an event with the Calendar, you will automatically be added to this database. You will then receive notices twice a year announcing the Fall or Spring Calendar's call for listings.

If you would like to be added to the Calendar database, please send the following information to our mailing address:

  • Contact name
  • Organization name
  • Full address, city, state, & zip code
  • Phone & fax
  • E-mail
  • Web site

You can also send this information by e-mail here

What happens if my organization's contact information changes?

Education Week does its best to keep current contact information for all calendar listers. If your organization's contact information changes or a new person within your organization assumes responsibility for listing events in the calendar, please let us know by updating your contact information. You can send an e-mail here or notify us by mail.

How can I remove an old contact name from the database?

If you need to remove any incorrect contact information, please send an e-mail here or notify us by mail.

Is there a charge for listing an event?

For-profit organizations interested in submitting event advertisements to the print issues of Education Week or Teacher Magazine should contact the advertising department at (800) 346-1834 or ads@epe.org

May I submit more than one event?

Yes. There is no limit on the number of events an organization may submit; however, all items are subject to review. We reserve the right to select and edit all listings submitted for publication.

When can I submit events for the Events sections?

    Education Week:

You must submit events for the weekly Events section at least 6 weeks prior to the event date unless you supply a registration deadline.

If your event has a set registration deadline, you need to submit your item 6 weeks prior to the deadline date.

All submissions are subject to review. We reserve the right to select and edit the listings submitted for publication.

    Teacher Magazine:

You must submit events at least 3 months prior to the event date. As a general rule of thumb, the earlier the better.

When will my item be listed?

Events are listed in Teacher Magazine and Education Week as space allows. Submission does not guarantee publication. All events are subject to review, and we reserve the right to select and edit listings for publication. Incomplete and late submissions or submissions that do not fit our listing criteria will not be published. Not all submissions will be published in both Education Week and Teacher Magazine.

Teacher Magazine publishes events that specifically target classroom teachers; Education Week covers a broader spectrum and will publish events for teachers, administrators, and other school staff.

If your event is accepted for publication by Education Week, it will usually appear about 3-4 weeks prior to the event date as space allows. All events are removed from Education Week's weekly sections 2 weeks prior to the event date unless a registration deadline is supplied. If you supply a deadline, then the event will be removed 2 weeks prior to the deadline date.

Teacher Magazine reviews all events submitted to Education Week as well as those submitted directly to the magazine and publishes them six times a year as space allows. If your event is accepted for publication in Teacher Magazine, it will usually appear in the same month as the event's scheduled date (or registration deadline, if applicable). For example, if your event occurs in October, it will appear in the October issue. If your event occurs in December it will appear in the November/December issue.

Teacher Magazine is currently published in:

  • August/September
  • October
  • November/December
  • January/February
  • March/April
  • May/June.

Will my item also be listed online?

Yes. Events that have been accepted for publication are listed online once they are reviewed and approved.

Please allow 7-10 days for review and posting. To find events online, search the online Calendar of Events.

Do Education Week and Teacher Magazine publish other items in their weekly and monthly listings?

Yes. Education Week and Teacher Magazine also publish grant and award opportunities for K-12 educators, schools, and school districts as well as both teacher and student competitions and scholarship deadlines. Grants and awards of national or regional interest that have already been conferred are also published.

How often are these sections published in print?

    Education Week:

Each section is published about once a month in conjunction with the weekly Events section. So, for example, if the Deadlines section appears in the third week of September, it will not appear again until the third week of October. Please keep in mind that Education Week does have publishing breaks during December and the summer months of July and August that will alter this cycle. If you submit an item during the publishing break, it will not appear in print until the next scheduled issue.

    Teacher Magazine:

Grants, awards, and deadlines are published six times a year as space allows. We cannot guarantee publication as listings are included on a space-available basis, and Teacher Magazine retains the right to edit submissions as necessary.

    Who is eligible to submit?

Unlike events, submissions for the Grants, Awards, and Deadlines sections are accepted from both for-profit and nonprofit organizations as long as they pertain directly to K-12 education. These submissions are ONLY published in the weekly and monthly sections. They DO NOT appear in the calendars.

What types of items are published in these sections?

The Grants section posts both grants that have been awarded to K-12 education organizations, educators, and schools, and grants currently open for applications from K-12 educators, researchers, schools, or school districts.

The Honors & Awards section posts only awards that have already been conferred to K-12 education organizations, schools, or educators.

The Deadlines section posts awards, calls for proposals, contests, scholarships, and fellowships currently accepting applications/entries from K-12 educators, schools, school districts, and students.

Is there a charge for listing an item in one of these sections?

No. Listings for grants, awards, and deadlines are free for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.

May I submit more than one item? May I submit items to multiple sections?

Yes. There is no limit on how many items you can submit; however, all items are subject to review. We publish these sections as space allows. Submission does not guarantee publication. We reserve the right to select and edit all submissions.

How can I submit a grant, award, or deadline?
