Learning Disability Awards

The National Center for Learning Disabilities, a New York City-based nonprofit that advocates for children and adults with learning disabilities, has awarded the $10,000 Anne Ford Scholarship to Lenora Somervell, a high school senior at the North Carolina School of Math and Science in Durham, N.C. Also recognized were Nathan Porter, of Wilmington, N.C., and Rachel Origer, of San Antonio, Texas.

Superintendent of the Year

The Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce, an Elizabeth, N.J.-based business organization that represents the New Jersey and New York City areas, has awarded Pablo Muñoz, the superintendent of the 21,000 student Elizabeth Public Schools in New Jersey with the 2008 School Superintendent of the Year Award.
