The Alliance to Save Energy, a Washington-based nonprofit that promotes energy efficiency, has awarded the Student Leadership in Energy Efficiency Award to the Hesperia, Calif.-based Hesperia Unified School District and the Murrieta, Calif.-based Murrieta Valley Unified School District. The awards were part of the Alliance’s Green Schools Program, an initiative that engages students in projects to save energy and reduce spending at their schools.
The Asia Society, a New York City-based nonprofit that promotes developing ties between the U.S. and Asia, and Goldman Sachs, a New York City-based investment banking company, have awarded two schools, one state board of education, and one international studies program for high school students, the 2008 Excellence in International Education Awards. The recipients each won $25,000 in recognition of their work to encourage an interest in international studies among K-12 students in their state. The recipients are:
California: Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education at Stanford University, Stanford.
Florida: Sunset Elementary School, Miami.
Ohio: Ohio State Board of Education, Columbus.
Oregon: Eugene International High School, Eugene.
