StoryCorps, a national non-profit oral history project, is recording, sharing, and preserving teachers' stories through its National Teachers Initiative, which launched September 19, 2011. StoryCorps, an Education Week content partner, hopes to call attention to the contributions teachers have made to this nation.

'More Than a Job'
After Tyrese Graham's first day as a teacher, he wasn't sure he had made the right career choice. At John Marshall Metropolitan High School on the West Side of Chicago, Graham has had to overcome obstacles he never anticipated, including the death of a student. Facing these challenges and their emotional toll, the students looked to their teachers—Kate Musick and Carlos Vizcarra—for help. The relationships they forged continue today.
