"Collective Impact and the New Generation of Cross-Sector Collaborations for Education: A Nationwide Scan"

More communities across the country are looking into cross-sector collaboration when it comes to education, according to a new report by Teachers College, Columbia University.

The report examines a model known as collective impact, a term coined by the nonprofit consulting group FSG in 2011. It's characterized by collaborations that draw broadly on public and private partnerships and are not reliant on initiatives driven by school districts or government policies alone. The report identifies 182 such collaborations across the country, and 60 percent of them were created before 2011.

The study was commissioned by The Wallace Foundation, which also supports coverage of leadership, expanded learning time, and arts learning in Education Week.
