N.M. Hires Outsider to Probe Credentials
New Mexico's education department will hire an independent investigator to examine how a schools superintendent got educational licenses with phony credentials.
The Mora school board voted last month to place Charles Trujillo on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of an investigation. The board earlier this year had hired Trujillo, who previously worked as assistant superintendent in the Pecos district.
An investigative report by The Las Vegas Optic revealed that Trujillo had lied about his work experience and education credentials in order to get an administrative license. After the state agency started the process of seizing his licenses, Trujillo surrendered the credentials.
