Lillian Lowery

Lillian Lowery, the state schools superintendent in Maryland, has resigned to become the president and chief executive officer of FutureReady Columbus, a nonprofit corporation in Ohio with an initial focus on early-childhood education, public policy, and community engagement. She had held the Maryland post since 2012.

Jack Smith, the deputy superintendent for teaching and learning and chief academic officer, will serve the remainder of Lowery's term through June 2016.

Dale Erquiaga

Dale Erquiaga will leave the helm of the Nevada education department after two years to become a chief strategy officer in the governor's office.

His post will be filled on an interim basis by Steve Canavero, who has served as deputy schools superintendent.

Nancy Golden

Nancy Golden is retiring after two years as Oregon's chief education officer.

The governor's education adviser, Lindsey Capps, will serve as the interim state schools chief.

Jim Rigg
Jim Rigg

Jim Rigg has been named the superintendent of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools, the largest private school system in the country, effective Oct. 5.

He previously served as the superintendent of the Roman Catholic school system in Cincinnati. His new position in Chicago gives him responsibility for more than 83,000 students in 230 schools across Cook and Lake counties.

Seth Litt
Seth Litt

Seth Litt, a former principal and a Teach For America alumnus, has been selected as the new leader of the California-based Parent Revolution, which focuses on organizing parents who want to turn around failing schools, most notably through the state's parent-trigger law.

He has been a principal in both district and charter schools in New York and served as a union-chapter leader.
