Appeal rejected in firing over classroom urination

FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico school district board is standing by the firing of a Shiprock High School teacher who refused to allow a student to use the bathroom during a lockdown.

The student ended up urinating at her classroom desk after holding it for an hour.

The Daily Times (http://bit.ly/I2qgFh ) reports that the Central Consolidated School District board voted 3-2 Tuesday night to not consider an appeal of the firing.

Teacher April Baisan's union said the district didn't have a bathroom plan during lockdowns and was making the teacher a scapegoat.

The district said the lockdown was for a drug search, that students weren't in danger and that Baisan should have used better judgment.
