Louisville schools revisiting ban on cellphones
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Public schools in Jefferson County may now seek permission to allow students to use cellphones on campus during the school day or at school events.
The waiver system lets the board to determine whether each school has a solid plan for using cellphones before granting them a policy exemption.
Fairdale High School Principal Brad Weston told The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/152DbQN ) that with advances made in cellphone technology, instructors may be able to use it as a teaching tool.
Currently, JCPS policy forbids students from using their phones, music players and computers while on school property or while attending a school-sponsored activity. Students caught violating the policy have their phone or device confiscated and returned only to their parents.
