School district asks court to dismiss lawsuit
COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Columbus School District is asking a judge to throw out a lawsuit filed former Superintendent Martha Liddell, who wants her job back.
There is a July 16 hearing on the lawsuit.
The school board argued in its motion that Liddell has not exhausted her administrative appeals. The board says it has not yet held Liddell's termination hearing. No date has been set for the hearing.
In a letter to Liddell, the board argued Liddell violated state law by using school funds for a private party and making misleading public statements about the use of a caterer and her attempt to reimburse the district.
Liddell was fired June 17 on a 3-2 vote by the school board. Liddell had become superintendent in June 2012 after serving as interim schools leader.
