Interim recommendations from gov's Newtown panel
Preliminary recommendations from the governor's Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, issued Monday:
— Registration of all firearms.
— Universal background checks for all gun sales and transfers.
— Require the renewal of firearms permits on a regular basis.
— Impose a ban on the possession or sale of all armor-piercing and incendiary bullets.
— Allow ammunition to only be purchased for registered firearms.
— Limit the amount of ammunition that can be purchased at one time.
— Require trigger locks be provided at the time of sale or transfer of any firearm.
— Require all firearms in a home be stored in a locked container.
— Require all gun clubs to report any negligent or reckless behavior they witness involving a firearm.
— Require gun show promoters to receive a permit from the local police chief, chief elected official, or state public safety commissioner.
— Require all exterior doors in K-12 schools be equipped with hardware capable of a full perimeter lockdown.
— Develop an All-Hazards Threat and Risk Assessment Security Recommendations (TRASR) tool to all schools and daycare centers statewide.
— Assign a full-time state emergency planner to review and comment on school emergency plans.
— Require background screening for all school staff.
