College Readiness

The Blandin Foundation, a Grand Rapids, Minn.-based philanthropy that supports rural communities, has awarded the St. Paul, Minn.-based Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation, a charitable organization that supports incoming college freshmen and college students, with two grants totaling $425,000. The grants will support initiatives to help high school and college students prepare for college with an emphasis on mathematics education for 10th to 12th grade high school students.

Character Education

The Sprint Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sprint Nextel, a wireless communications company based in Overland Park, Kan., has awarded 19 school districts and 45 public schools with a total of $607,000 in character education grants. The Sprint Ahead for Education grant program will support teacher training, the development of character education curricula, and related service learning programs.
