WASHINGTON (AP) — The city has released terms of a settlement with fired school superintendent Clifford Janey, who will receive a $275,000 payment from the district.

District officials released the information after The Washington Post filed a Freedom of Information Act request. Officials had initially refused to disclose the settlement terms.

Janey will also receive $13,000 in retirement benefits for his first year on the job. His retirement money will be calculated as if he had spent two additional years on the job.

Janey came to the district in September 2004, and was superintendent until Mayor Adrian Fenty took over the school system and named Michelle Rhee to the new chancellor position in June.
