The 80,000 members of the International Reading Association have elected Lesley Mandel Morrow to be the association’s president.

Ms. Morrow, a professor of literacy at Rutgers University’s graduate school of education in New Brunswick, N.J., will begin serving her one-year term on May 8.

The Newark, Del.-based organization provides its members from around the world with resources to improve reading and communication instruction.

Ted Kozlik has been elected president of the National Association of Pupil Services Administrators, a Pittsford, N.Y.-based group that provides research and information about guidance counseling, school psychology services, social work, discipline issues, and other matters to its 800 members.

Mr. Kozlik, 58, who is the assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services for the 5,700-student Westfield public school system in Westfield, N.J., is serving a one-year term as president that ends in January 2004.

Richard D. Laine has been named the director of education programs for the Wallace-Reader’s Digest Funds.

Mr. Laine, 39, joined the New York City-based philanthropy in December as the deputy director of education programs. He was promoted earlier this month.

Mr. Laine will now oversee the Leaders Count initiative, a $150 million, five-year program that partners the Wallace-Reader’s Digest Funds and five other national organizations with 16 states and 12 school districts to strengthen educational leadership in high-need areas.
