A story in the Oct. 16, 2002, issue of Education Week about U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige's relationship with Congress quoted an unidentified Democratic congressional aide as saying that a July briefing of the House Education and the Workforce Committee had been scheduled purposely for a time when Mr. Paige was out of town and unavailable to testify to the committee. At the time of the hearing, Mr. Paige was in fact in Washington, but did not attend the hearing.

A Testing column in the same issue gave incorrect information about a new center for advanced studies in measurement and assessment at the University of Iowa. The center will be a unit within the college of education. The Iowa Testing Programs will remain an independent unit within the college, as will an existing center for evaluation and assessment.
