Correction
In a story on the quality of history textbooks, “Analysis Finds Shallowness in Latest History Textbooks,” in the April 26, 2000, issue of Education Week, a quote was wrongly attributed to a Mr. Davis. The remark was made by Thomas Adams, who coordinated the adoption of history and social science textbooks for California last year.
Clarification
A story in the same issue on test rules for limited-English-proficient pupils, “Educators Wary of Test Rules for LEP Pupils,” may have given the incorrect impression that results from the new Reading Proficiency Test in English for LEP students in Texas are part of the state’s system for rating schools. The scores from LEP students who take the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills, however, are included in the rating system.
