Patrick R. Bassett

The Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University, has given Patrick F. Bassett its Year 2000 Leadership Award.

Mr. Bassett, 51, is the president of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States, which has 208 member schools throughout 15 Midwestern states.

Marion G. Hodges

Billy Kearney

Teach for America has appointed Marion G. Hodges as the executive director of its Chicago office and Billy Kearney as the executive director of its Atlanta office.

Ms. Hodges, 28, formerly served as the director of central recruitment for the New York City-based national nonprofit organization. Mr. Kearney, 28, was the director of national recruitment.

Susan E. Galletti has joined the Galef Institute as its vice president of middle-level research and development, focusing on the Los Angeles-based organization’s Different Ways of Knowing school reform model.

Ms. Galletti, 53, previously served as the associate executive director and the director of middle-level services for the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The College Board, based in New York City, has appointed three new officers. Lezli Baskerville will serve as the vice president for government relations. Ms. Baskerville, 44, a lawyer, previously ran her own legal- and legislative-services collective, the Baskerville Group. Peter Negroni will serve as the vice president for teaching and learning. Mr. Negroni, 58, will leave his current post as the superintendent of the 25,000-student Springfield, Mass., public schools in July. Richard Weingarten will serve as the senior vice president for finance and business development. Mr. Weingarten, 49, was the president of Richard Weingarten & Co.Inc., a Tryon, N.C.-based financial firm.
