A News in Brief item in the Nov. 3, 1999, issue of Education Week ("News in Brief: Suit Over NHS Settled") failed to clarify a provision of the settlement between the Grant County, Ky., school district and the American Civil Liberties Union in a lawsuit over National Honor Society Membership.

The district may consider sexual activity in granting membership in the organization, the agreement says, "so long as such consideration does not have the purpose or effect of treating students differently on any of the bases" prohibited by federal sex-discrimination law.


A story about Kelly Services in the Nov. 10, 1999, issue of Education Week ("Need a Sub? 'Temp' Agency Ready To Serve") gave the wrong name for the university at which the Substitute Teaching Insitute is located. The institute is at Utah State University in Logan.
