A quotation box in a story about safety consultant Ronald D. Stephens ("School Safety Consultant Ron Stephens: The Man in Demand,") in the Sept. 8, 1999, issue of Education Week incorrectly combined statements from two sources in the story. The second half of the quote, "It was crazy at the end of last year. We had bomb threats. Anxiety was high," was from Daniel Coward, the principal of Amarillo (Texas) High School.
A story on new federal guidelines for teacher-preparation programs ("Teacher Ed. Riled Over Federal Plan,") in the Aug. 4 issue gave an incorrect deadline. Congress mandated that the standards be completed by July 7.
