The High/Scope Educational Research Foundation and the National Association for the Education of Young Children have recognized 10 programs as exemplary:

Bridges Family Child Care, a family-child-care home in Madison, Wis.

Children's for Children, a corporate child-care program at the nonprofit Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Day Care Services Association, a statewide child-care organization that provides resource and referral services, conducts research, and runs a scholarship program for child-care providers in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Kindergarten and Children's Aid Association Pre-Schools of Hawaii, a nonprofit organization in Honolulu.

Kennewick Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, a nonprofit, public-school based prekindergarten in Kenneeick (Wash.) School District 17.

Lakewood Avenue Children's School, a for-profit center in Durham, N.C.

Miami Valley Child Development Services, a Head Start Agency in Dayton, Ohio.

River Valley Child Development Services, a nonprofit community-action agency in Huntington, W.Va.

Sycamore Tree Preschool, a nonprofit, part-time, church-based program in Bremerton, Wash.

UCLA Child Care Services, a nonprofit, university-based center in Los Angeles.
