On Nov. 18, Louisiana voters will choose between U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields, a Democrat, and state Sen. Mike Foster, a Republican, to succeed Democratic Gov. Edwin W. Edwards. Legislative seats also will be up for election across the state. Democrats control the Senate, 33 to 6, and hold the House at 87 Democrats, 17 Republicans, and one independent.
