Ohio Districts Settle Dispute Over Natural Gas
A coalition of about 70 Ohio districts has resolved a legal battle with a local utility and will begin making bulk purchases of natural gas next year.
East Ohio Gas Company, the utility serving northeastern Ohio, agreed in a negotiated settlement to eliminate administrative charges that effectively prevented schools from buying natural gas in bulk. In return, the Greater Cleveland Schools’ Council agreed to pay increased rates proposed by East Ohio.
The schools had petitioned the state public utilities commission for relief from the administrative charges last summer and was joined in the petition by the state education department in September. (See Education Week, 09/14/94.)
