Legislative Action

Indian Education
S Res 264

The Senate passed a resolution Oct. 7 calling on the President to issue an executive order fostering achievement of the national education goals by Native American students and to increase federal support of Indian higher-education institutions. It was approved by voice vote.

Information Technology

The House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Finance held a hearing Sept. 30 on educational access to telecommunications.

Parental Involvement

The Senate Subcommittee on Children, Youth, and Families held an Oct. 7 hearing on parental involvement in education, featuring testimony from Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley.

The Education Department

Education Research

The Education Department has extended to Nov. 9 the deadline for comments on reorganization of the office of educational research and improvement and on the federal research agenda.
