Oct. 18--Postsecondary education: The U.S. Education Department is inviting applications for awards under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education--Comprehensive Education Program. The awards are intended to provide grants or enter into cooperative agreements to improve postsecondary education opportunities. An estimated 75 awards ranging from $15,000 to $150,00 each will be available to institutions of higher education and other public and private nonprofit educational institutions and agencies. * Oct. 25--Math and technology research: The U.S. Energy Department is inviting applications from teachers interested in participating in its Teacher Research Associate program. The program will immerse instructors in eight-week science, technology, and leadership-training seminars at department research facilities during summer 1995. The department expects to award approximately 300 teacher research placements. Teachers are provided with a $550 a week stipend, reimbursement for travel expenses for research programs, and a housing reimbusement of up to $1,000. Mathematics and technology teachers of grades 7-12 are eligible.
