National Endowment for the Arts

The Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee last week voted 17 to 0 to approve the nomination of Jane Alexander to be chairwoman of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Safe-Schools Act
S 1125

The Senate Subcommittee on Education, Arts, and Humanities held a hearing on the proposed “safe-schools act’’ and violence-prevention techniques. Deputy Secretary of Education Madeleine M. Kunin testified.

H.H.S. Nomination

The Senate Finance Committee held a hearing last week on President Clinton’s nomination of Mary Jo Bane to be assistant secretary for family support in the Department of Health and Human Services.
