Attallah Shabazz, the eldest daughter of Malcolm X, has urged students not to skip school to see the opening of the new biographical film about her father.
The film's director, Spike Lee, has urged students to skip school Nov. 20 to see the premiere of his tribute to the late Black Muslim leader. He said the film shows a slice of American history not taught in schools.
Speaking to an audience at Texas Southern University in Houston this month, Ms. Shabazz said, "I do not request, nor do I think my father would want, you to play hooky.''
"Instead, pay tribute to yourself,'' Ms. Shabazz said. "Stay in
school and learn. Stay at your job and feed your family.''
