George A. Sleeman, the former superintendent of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory District, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a financial scandal that rocked the state’s largest district.

Mr. Sleeman also was ordered to pay $8,425 in restitution and to perform 1,000 hours of community service.

Mr. Sleeman was convicted on eight counts of embezzling school funds and lying about it during a state investigation. He also faces additional charges related to a “ghost class” scheme, in which teachers were paid and awarded continuing-education credits for courses that did not exist.
