Blood samples from students at 20 college campuses across the nation are to be tested in an unprecedented government effort to determine how widespread the AIDS virus is among college students.
According to the American College Health Association, which is coordinating the study for the federal Centers for Disease Control, the tests are being conducted on “residual’’ blood samples drawn by student health services for other purposes. The anonymous samples included for use in the study will be labeled only with the gender, age, and race of the donors.
