Elementary-school playgrounds can be hazardous to children's health, a recent study by the American Association for Leisure and Recreation suggests.

Last year, the association trained 34 volunteer members to assess the safety of 206 randomly chosen school playgrounds in communities across the nation. According to Louis Bowers, who tabulated the survey results, the team of evaluators found that:
