Vincent E. Reed, assistant U.S. secretary of education, resigned last week to become vice president for communications of The Washington Post.

The former Washington, D.C., teacher and school superintendent, who was in charge of federal aid programs for elementary and secondary while at the Education Department, will be responsible for The Post's public relations and school services programs.
